Cover letter from Mr. Grimaldi

June 22, 2005

The Honourable David Emerson
Minister of Industry
235 Queen Street
Ottawa, Ontario K1A OH5

Dear Minister Emerson:

Further to our discussion at the recent CAPC meeting, I am following up on the North American Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) initiative. Please find attached the CAPC submission that outlines our industry's suggestions for actions in areas where we could focus both within Canada and the larger North American context to further our mutual security and prosperity. Given the work that CAPC has undertaken over the past two years, together we should strive for significant progress in border efficiency and regulatory consistency as outlined in our submission, particularly those items called out in the Annex that require priority and urgent attention.

Additionally, I want to reiterate the industry's support for the concept of a Trilateral North American Auto Sector Council. We believe that the establishment of such a council should offer a forum for enhanced collaboration, but should not interfere with the shorter-term improvements that must be achieved on the specific recommendations already identified for the border and regulations.

On behalf of the CAPC members, we look forward to working with your officials towards the objectives within the Security and Prosperity Partnership initiative.

Yours truly,

Michael A. Grimaldi
